Medical - Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation

The goal of the course is to create awareness among the target audience about how to recognize signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation in their adult patients and how and when to report their suspicions. Students will be able to recognize signs and symptoms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, list the behaviors and characteristics of the abused and of an abuser, identify ways to protect patients, and understand how and when to report suspected abuse.

The purpose of this lesson is to familiarize individuals who work in medical facilities with the principles of back care and ergonomics in order to help them reduce or prevent work-related injuries. OSHA does not currently have regulations related to back care and ergonomics, but there are many reasons for employers to be proactive in reducing worker injuries, which may account for lost time, decreased productivity, and lower quality of work.

Medical - Fire Safety / Patient Evacuation

This course is designed for all employees and staff members of hospitals, emergency care centers, assisted living centers, nursing homes, and other health care facilities. Its purpose is to train employees on how to prevent fires, what to do in the event of a fire, and how to properly evacuate patients/residents if necessary.

Medical - HIPAA for Covered Entities

The purpose of this course is to inform covered entity employees who have access to patients' personal and health information of their legal responsibility to protect that information, explain how to safeguard the information, identify the circumstances under which it may be shared and with whom, and instruct them how to handle HIPAA violations and security breaches.

The learner will be able to identify the risk involved with lifting and transferring patients and identify correct methods for lifting to reduce injuries.

Medical - Personal Protective Equipment

The purpose of this lesson is to familiarize individuals who work in medical facilities with the types of personal protective equipment (PPE) they may use on the job. The lesson addresses the purpose of personal protective equipment, as well as information on appropriate usage, maintenance, and disposal. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that healthcare organizations provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to employees who are exposed to infectious contaminants on the job and train employees on how to use PPE safely and effectively.

Medical - Restraint and Seclusion

The goal of this training is to inform healthcare workers of the legal requirements and standards for use of restraints and seclusion in a variety of healthcare settings, and to help them identify procedures for the safe use of restraints as well as alternatives to the use restraints and seclusion.
